Fair point, I stand corrected πŸ˜‚ A cheese and onion toasted sandwich deserves its very own recipe, anyway.

I’ve always made my toasted cheese sandwiches the same way. I refuse to use a sandwich toaster aka jaffle way however because the ruin a good cheese sandwich you can’t beat a good old fashioned pan to get the job done rightπŸ‘

I’ve cooked my cheese toasties this way since I was about 7-8yr old. That’s nearly 50yr now. Shhh. Anyway. I never butter the bread. I seldom use butter for anything. And never both sides of the bread. I either spray the outside of bread with olive oil and salt it or spread mayonnaise over the outside. Mayonnaise gives a far superior flavour and crust. Maybe give it a try Nagi. Note that if you use mayonnaise you must lower pan temperature slightly so not to burn. But slipping tomato in the middle of the cheese so it covers both sides and putting a stack of black pepper on the tomato opens the gates of heaven.
